2024 Fettle Those Finishes review

I'm linking up with one of my favorite online personalities Mini Archie the Wonder Dog and his person Helen to review how the planning for 2024 matched what was actually accomplished. If you want to join in for 2025 we're sharing our lists and encouraging each other on the Linky parties.

2024 continued tracking using a single sheet to track both UFO's and new starts; this is based on the UFO tracker by Gail at QuiltingGail.com. The focus is better using this method:

Blue highlighted projects were completed in 2024. Green highlighted dates were completed in December. Pink highlighted projects were progressed in December.

2 UFO projects were completed in 2024. 20 new starts were completed in 2024. I am so pleased with the accomplish in 2024. So many new types of projects and so much learning. Each monthly furtle posts have pictures of items completed that month:

For 2024 there were several focus/type lists planned.

For QuiltFest (drop off in early September for judging), target was complete 3 quilts to submit 4:

1. PRIOR YEAR DONE: PBJ 2021 Color Challenge doll-size quilt with custom 2" blocks
2. PBJ 2021 Color Challenge Twin-sized quilt (UFO 1) out of the 24 blocks, 12 are 12" and 12 are 6" which I want to make inspired by the Doll-sided quilt
3. Free Motion Quilting Academy Sampler (UFO 2) which has a completed Flimsy and already purchased batting, backing and binding
4. DONE: 2024 QuiltFest Challenge quilt (UFO 3) because one of my guilds is the host of this year's QuiltFest I wanted to participate as fully as possible. This quilt must be an original design inspired by the theme "Sew Your Heart Out" and use the kit provided fabrics

Quilt Guild Participation items to try and limit:

1. DONE: Mar 5 - HB 2024 Opportunity (Raffle) Block - Heart Bird - makes money for the guild
2. DONE: May 19 - JAX MQG 10-year anniversary Paint Chip Challenge
3. SKIP: Jun 9 - JAX MQG Annual Birthday Party Donation Block(s)
4. DONE x2: Jul 2 - HB 2024 Exchange Quilt Strips (32) + Signed up for 2nd Strip set
5. SKIP: Jul 2 - HB 2024 QuiltFest Donation Cat Quilt 
6. DONE: Aug 6 - HB Birthday Party Lottery Block (one guild member wins all blocks)
7. PROGRESS: Nov 16 - HB Elfin Magic workshop date (~6 projects)
8. DONE: Dec 3 - HB Holiday Party Lottery Block (one guild member wins all blocks)
9. SKIP: Dec 15 - JAX MQG Holiday Party Donation Block(s)

Other preferred projects:

1. DONE: On January 19th, from the UFO list, the Blue Rail Fence with Minky back (UFO 46) was completed, so that was one of my priority projects for 2024
2. PROGRESS: Easy Breezy twin size - Quiltville's 2020 Leader/Ender pattern
3. Sewing H.Q! quilted sign (UFO 11)
4. HB 2022 Exchange Blocks quilt (UFO 43)
5. Jelly Roll Race quilt (UFO 23)
6. PBJ 2020 Color Challenge Flimsy (UFO 5) 
7. Free Motion Quilting Academy Whole Cloth quilt - new project

8 completed + 3 skipped is 11 of 20 is 55%. I'm very pleased with this progress.

The upheaval of losing 13-year old Kipper and gaining Wiki both Black with White male Whippet dogs really challenged my artistic momentum twice in 2024. Osky is much happier being one of two dogs in the household even if Wiki is annoying sometimes.

It just so happens that every time I've been looking for a Whippet, he is black with some white markings. Wiki is the 4th along this color scheme and I'm fine with that!

 

The best finish of 2024 was my Quilter of Hearts challenge quilt for this year's Sew Your Heart Out theme at QuiltFest Jacksonville where it won an Honorable Mention. And special shout out to both MA and Helen for their brilliant advice and encouragement through every step of the process. Thank you so very much for all the kind and wise words!!!
