December 2023 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

December Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

-Janine at Rainbow Hare on 2/28/2019

To socialize with my online crafty friends I'm linking up with Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person for the monthly progress link-up from Fettle Those Finishes!

I'm posting my weekly/monthly stats here for linking up once a month with Kate at Life In Pieces. My 2023 goal is to stitch at least 15-minutes 50% of the days in the year, same as 2021 and 2022.
  • Week 49: 6 of 7 = 86 %
    • 72 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • Week 50: 7 of 7 = 100 %
    • 41 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • Week 517 of 7 = 100 %
    • 74 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • Week 527 of 7 = 100 %
    • 107 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • Week 537 of 7 = 100 %
    • 222 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • December 30 of 31 = 97 %
  • 2023: 349 of 365 = 95%
December continued with along with the extra load at work. It has become a wonderful challenge experience. I'm growing so very much. And I enjoyed the last 10-days of 2023 off from work. It was a great relaxing time.

For the last week of December I put together a Quilt Top Flimsy purchased in March 2016 at one of my first Quilt Shows. And during my time off, I spent the last few days hand sewing which was terrifically relaxing.

I am so lucky that I spent at least 15-minutes sewing only missing one day in December. How did sewing go?

December Projects Completed:

1) Simply Sparkle Bliss quilt's Pillowcase, 2023 UFO 24, completed in 4-hours and 53-minutes in 2023 plus time in 2019. Also, this month's One Monthly Goal, finish post here.

2) Baby It’s Gnome Outside Tucked in Tote is 2023 Project 63 completed in 3-hours and 58-minutes. I did use a binding option to finish the side seams. This was my December purse and I LOVED it!!! I want to make more of these for the seasons. So easy and pretty quick. Just 3 FQ's should make any bag that I want.

3) RGA SkillBuilders 1 & 2 cleaned up and ready for FMQ practice, 2023 UFO 34, completed in 8-hours and 48-minutes. No pictures.

4) 3 QuiltSmart Gadget Cushions with adhesive vinyl on my favorite paw prints fabric, 2023 Project 67, completed in 4-hours and 16-minutes. I have been planning on making these for a couple years. They were truly a Christmas present to myself and I'm so thrilled to have them in my home propping the doors.

5) 2023 Elfin Magic 6 projects, 2023 Project 58, completed in 14-hours and 2-minutes. This included my closet finishing project during the New Year's fireworks making my younger dog upset. Osky and I hung out on a nest of fluffy dog beds and blankets while I hand-sewed and watched a Netflix movie and Osky snoozed. The photo also includes the Decorative centerpiece I won at the other quilt guild's holiday party meeting.

December Project Progressed:

1) Pink Door Fabrics' Smitten v2 EPP Block of the Month, Month 4 (2023 Project 26), Block 4B assembly is in progress:

Months 8 and 9 trackers for Cutting each month plus a separate tracker for sewing each block have been created.

2) 2024 QuiltFest Challenge "Sew Your Heart Out" (2023 Project 64) design and preliminary sketch was created but keeping secret until the quilt is turned in to the show so no shared photos.

3) Blue Rail Fence with Minky back (2023 Project 65), got the quilt top together from the kit of 3 1-yard cuts, but with custom cornerstones and wider borders then determined it also needed to be a little bigger to use up the entire Cuddle Minky backing to make the largest blanket possible. I picked a very dark blue from the Learn To Quilt class to be a narrow top/bottom and wider side borders. It's so exciting to have gotten this far within a single vacation. I can't wait to finish this quilt.

4) 2021 BOM PBJ Color Challenge Throw/Twin size (2023 UFO 14), is now in progress on the design wall with a layout that is inspired by the custom doll-sized quilt so that both can be in the same show:

Here's the doll quilt made with custom designed 2" blocks:

5) Easy Breezy twin size - Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender (2023 UFO 17) was progressed in December as the Leader/Ender project. The sizes and colors have been calculated and two categories are already completed cut. There were 44 of 180 blocks completed and so the assembly continues. More cutting of block kits:

December Stats:

  • 5 Completed
  • 7 Progressed
  • 40 UFO's remaining
  • 11 2023 started projects remaining
What did you get done in December?
