February Review / Furtle
As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

To socialize with my online crafty friends I'm linking up with Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person for the monthly progress link-up from
Fettle Those Finishes!
Continuing weekly stats here for possibly linking up once a month with Kate at Life In Pieces. My 2024 goal is to stitch at least 15-minutes 50% of the days in the year, same as 2021, 2022 and 2023.
- Week 5: 7 of 7 = 100 %
- 85 minutes/day average across 7-days
- Week 6: 6 of 7 = 86 %
- 56 minutes/day average across 7-days
- Week 7: 7 of 7 = 100 %
- 132 minutes/day average across 7-days
- Week 8: 7 of 7 = 100 %
- 61 minutes/day average across 7-days
- Week 9: 5 of 5 = 100 %
- 66 minutes/day average across 3-days
- February 28 of 29 = 97 %
- 2024: 59 of 60 = 98%
February was not only busy for work but was also busy on the weekends with leading a workshop and a day-trip to the American Quilter's Society Daytona Beach, Florida show with a van-full of quilt guild sisters. Even with all that, February had some great sewing progress.
Focus continues on my projects planned this year out in my Furtle post
HERE.
I am so lucky that I spent at least 15-minutes sewing every day except one in February.
Projects Half Done Progress update:
There were 46 projects already started before January 1, 2024. The below screenshot of my projects from the spreadsheet provided (and a little expanded) by QuiltingGail is my 'official' list with reference numbers used throughout the year.
As of February 29th, 4 projects have been completed (Blue Highlight), 1 UFO and 3 new projects. 2 projects were completed this month (Green Highlight on completion Date), No UFO's and 2 new projects. 12 projects progressed this month (Pink Highlight), 4 UFO's and 8 new projects.
How did sewing go?
February Projects Completed:
1) JAX MQG 2024 Opportunity Quilt blocks for the guild to combine and create into a quilt to be entered and the ticket picked for the winner. Here are my two blocks:
2) Doll Quilts for the visiting family inspired by the full-size human quilt made for their Hoomom. Luckily the 4 quilts were finished just in time to meet my February One Monthly Goal, post HERE. The Hercules and Natalie family 4 quilts, 2024 Project 3 were completed in 12-hours and 25-minutes. The family took them for a spin:
February Project Progressed:
1) 2024 QuiltFest Challenge quilt (UFO 3) inspired by the theme "Sew Your Heart Out" using the kit provided fabrics. There will be some applique in my quilt and I have determined that my Cricut to draw some of the major pieces then cut them by hand. The design is too complex for the Cricut to cut even with it's tiny rotary blade. For reference here's a close-up photo with the fabrics and photocopies of the fabrics cut to the size/shape to audition:
As the Challenge is due for September, I will only share small photos like this one, maybe even just this one for quite some time.
2) Easy Breezy twin size, Quiltville's 2020 Leader/Ender pattern - continued to assemble a few more of the 180 blocks needed for UFO 4 that are kits but no new photos.
3) Alchemy BOM (2024 UFO 6) has more pieces assembled, but no new photos.
4) Smitten2 BOM through Month 9 (2024 UFO 7) had several progresses. Block 4B was attached.
Block 4C has progressed.
5) JAX MQG 10-year anniversary Paint Chip Challenge (2024 Project 2) fabric ordered as closely matching the swatches picked at Jan 22 meeting as possible.
6) Mug Mat - At the American Quilter's Society show in Daytona Beach, FL last Saturday in the swag bag from renewing my membership was an adorable kit by June Tailor Inc made with the AccuQuilt cutting system, Quilt As You Go (QAYG) Twisted Strips Mug Mat. Unfortunately, my kit was missing 2 of the blue fabric strips and I couldn't find a matching fabric in my stash. Instead, I have picked out a Purple strip from my stash to replace the blue.
7) Smitten2 BOM Months 11 through 16 (2024 Projects 5 through 10) have the paper pieces separated into baggies for all the rest of the blocks. The custom fabric cutting and block assembly trackers have been made through Month 13, but no photos since it's not my pattern.
February Stats:
- 2 Completed
- 12 Progressed
- 45 UFO's remaining
- 9 2024 started projects remaining
