May 2021 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

 May Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

While the FinishALong organized group was cancelled in 2020 Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person started hosting a monthly progress link-up: Fettle Those Finishes!

How to recap May? I'm exhausted and the linky party closes soon.

May Sewing objectives realized and progressed:

1. Finish-A-Long 2021 Q2 second completion was #93 on the list HEREQuiltSmart Mondo bag also for the same one of my sisters:

2. Finished all 3 sizes of my May blocks for Patterns By Jen's 2021 Color Challenge:

3. Continued making blocks of Easy Breezy Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender Challenge started July 1, 2020. While others quilters are spending quality time getting lots of blocks done, I am strictly sewing the kits when there are no other pieces in my main project(s) to leave under the machine between stitching sessions. I am in no rush and can continue past June 30, 2021 if needed to have enough blocks for a quilt. The blocks are down off the design wall so I am not keeping any count temporarily.

I've learned from looking at Bonnie's finished quilt that I am heading in the right direction with a few tweaks. And I am also adjusting my scrap management to focus on creating the 1.5" versions, moving all other smaller cotton pieces to recycle into pet beds by one of my quilt guilds.

4. First home quilting practice with my Terry Twist 2” quilting ruler by Sally Terry. I am so excited to have these tools and her book Hooked on Feathers to work on my unfinished quilts. Not bad for a first stitch out especially when I started it wrong.

  1. Look at all those purple DONEs at the top of your Fettling List! *impressed face* I need to revisit my list and see if I’ve managed to cross anything off it - must remember for this month’s Furtle. And it’ll soon be time for a new (old) FAL list, I think? (Although I don’t know the dates for each quarter and can’t find them anywhere.) You’re doing much better than I, I think I might be right at the top of the Proddy List… *winces* Thanks for Furtling!
