8 Decorative napkins done - FALQ4
The saga of the 8 decoratively stitched Napkins, #36 on the Ridiculously Long 2018 Q4 Finish-A-Long proposed list HERE....
It was a long journey to get here on 10/14/2018:
Napkins have been delivered to neighbors. Those neighbors so kindly took us in to their home and let us visit for every holiday with all their family. Last Thanksgiving they wanted a BIIIIIG tablecloth. The Mrs. & I went to Joann Fabrics and picked out a lovely leaf pattern fabric:
The tablecloth was completed on time with french seam & rolled hems. I'm so proud that I got it done on time 11/27/2017. There was extra fabric left over so I wanted to make them a Table topper quilt specifically to make the Dimensional Pinwheels quilt from Laura Ann Coia's SewVeryEasy YouTube video. The Mr. provided input on the preferred matching color using the colored dots along the selvage.
The borders were adjusted using EQ8 to simulate the quilt before completing it. Here's what I tried:
The quilt was completed, Option 1, on 5/14/2018 the day before it was due for the quilt guild show. It won 2nd place in the Miniature Category of the 2018 Rebecca's Reel Quilters biennial show.
So... now what to do with the extra orange fabric? Well, make decorative napkins since my Janome Horizon memory Craft 9400 QCP (Madame) has a pre-programmed leaf stitch and I have variegated brown thread. Madame and I had some issues including a car accident so, the cut Napkin blanks were set aside while she was fixed a couple times by Janome.
Getting back to the 2018 Q3 Finish-A-Long list HERE after finishing the 2 Gadget Holders on September 26, 2018, I decided to try and finish the Napkins by October 9, 2018 but just couldn't do it.
After several tests, the best course was to sew the decoration on the single layer of fabric, skipping the corners, and then use the napkin hemming technique with nice mitered corners found on YouTube which covered the back side of the decorative stitches.
Since the first napkin turned out, the other 7 were finished and gifted. The Mr. said Autumn napkins are good because they only use cloth napkins once the weather turns cold.
Sorry no photos with both the table topper and the napkins, maybe later.
Wishing you your own easy project finishes!

What a fabulous, ongoing project! I love how you involved the recipients in the planning. And best wishes to Madame upon her recovery.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Mary. It was such a fun project. Madame has proved to be better than new with no more issues. We are a happy healthy pair once again.
DeleteI'm glad Madame is operational! That's a lovely table set. On behalf of the FAL crew, thanks for linking up!
