November 2021 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

November Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

While the FinishALong organized group was cancelled in 2020 Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person started hosting a monthly progress link-up: Fettle Those Finishes!

November has been even crazier busier at work and at home. But the 1 week of vacation and a 1/2 week of time off with a Holiday were a terrific boon.

How did sewing go?

November Sewing objectives realized and progressed:

1. Continued String and Story's Free Motion Quilting Academy with HollyAnne Knight. Finally got to start testing the 5 different batches of Homemade Basting Spray to test:
Both HollyAnne's sprays diluted with either Isopropyl Alcohol or cheap Vodka worked great holding the layers together. I did need to open the window and vent the vaporizing alcohol because it was an overwhelming smell. But this was more enjoyable than an aerosol for me. The diluted glues were more stinky and I didn't enjoy them as much.

The Vodka Spray Baste was used to secure the layers of Happy Go Lucky Unicorns throw-sized quilt.

I've continued to doodle FMQ motifs in both my Rocketbook Orbit and Doodle pads.

2. Finished all 3 sizes of my November blocks for Patterns By Jen's 2021 Color Challenge:

Lil Trixie is so happy to have another block done:

We came to an agreement on an adjusted pattern for her September block and got it finished:

Then took our official 3-block photo for September:

3. Finished making all the pre-cut blocks of Easy Breezy Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender Challenge started July 1, 2020. I've designed a replacement doggie quilt for couch snuggling with the 6" blocks. While this EQ8 design version is all the same fabrics, the real deal will be scrappy.

Final three blocks ready to be sewn as Leaders/Enders; these are already done:
I seem to have taken PBJ's Blueberry inspiration for November as all three blocks feature blues.

4. Happy Go Lucky Unicorns - Fabric Cafe 3 1-yard fabrics in a roll from 2016. Quilt completed.

Matching pillowcase is in progress:

5. Added the hanging sleeve and hung in my office my QuiltCon 2022 Windham Fabrics' Artisan Challenge with 4 target fabrics plus acceptable Neutrals:

The MQG committee has informed me that my submission was not selected to be in QuiltCon 2022, but that's okay as there are so many incredible quilts. I can't wait to see all the entries!

Still need to make and attach the label to the back. The material is cut and ready to be stitched out.

6. Geo Grid Quilt has the bottom 4 rows sewn and the bottom two together.

7. Thomas has a second leg pair of pieces sewn together while waiting for Hubby's oral surgery where I drove:
Love that Dizzy Quilter Needle Minder and you can get one too while they are available!

8) HoneyBeeQuilters Guild's Elfin Magic workshop projects:
8.1) Foundation Paper Pieced zippered pouch completed at the workshop:

8.2) COVID Card Vinyl protection pouch:
Did not finish at the workshop as I accidentally removed the zipper pull and had to put it back on to finish. It's almost done.

8.3) Phone Clutch - ran out of time at the workshop and didn't have quite enough binding for the edge. Will get more at the December meeting to finish:

9) JAX MQG Donation block will be my next focus project - Black & White and focus color fabrics selected for the Easy Breezy 6" block. The blue fabric pieces have been cut. The Black, White & Gray fabrics have been selected.

10) JAX MQG Exchange Gift - Need to choose pattern and fabrics. Maybe I'll use some Tula Pink Homemade fabrics and make a pouch or Mug rug.

11) HoneyBees Exchange Gift - Need to choose pattern and fabrics. Maybe I'll use some of the Cheerful Christmas Quilt fabrics

  1. Look at all that wonderful quilting! Seems like the basting spray worked really well bar the smell? Sorry about the quilt con rejection; from what I’ve seen, you’re in good company this year. You’re doing brilliantly with your Fettling list, keep going, you can do this!

    1. Thank you so much! Yes, the basting spray worked great. And the Vodka one was the easiest to tolerate. The other rejected quilts are quite beautiful! Can't wait to see the actual accepted ones!!! Thank you so much for the Fettling link-up. It's so encouraging to see a full month of accomplishments!!!! I LOVE your socks!
