15 Minutes To Stitch 2021 - Week 48

I loved participating in Kate's Life in Pieces 15 Minutes to Stitch since 2020 and am a fan of her blog. She's continuously hosted since 2011!

My 2021 goal is to stitch at least 15-minutes 50% of the days in the year.

  • Week 48: 6 of 7 = 86 %
    • 155 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • November: 27 of 28 = 96%
  • 2021: 294 of 332 = 89 %
After a week of staycation went back to work for 2 days then took 3 days off including Thanksgiving. All went well until Hubby got a mild Gal Stone attack. We dealt with it using Dr. Schulze's Liver-Gallbladder Detox emergency steps. If you need the reference see HerbDoc.com. Not really looking forward to a full week of work starting tomorrow. I am sure going to enjoy working with my colleagues again. They are my favorite team that I've worked with so far.

Osky got out the 6 steel staples in his side. He has healed up nicely. He can now run around the yard. We've decided to not have the two boys together loose outside now. Osky on leash and Kipper free is okay. I have been also taking them out one at a time. They are more calm that way. Kipper's ear treatments are going well, 4th of the 9-weeks yeast infection treatment for deep in his ears. He's responding well to the treatment and I'm so glad it only has to be applied once a week. We do it after his weekly bath.

I'm so thrilled to have completed the One Monthly Goal quilt and my first experience with homemade Basting Spray, recipe from String And Story diluted by the cheapest Vodka available.

Still enjoying listening to YouTubes of Abraham Hicks each night to soothe and reframe my perspective and focus. Had another Hypnosis session which are very helpful in helping me adjust my self perspective.

So, how did the sewing projects go?

Top items with progress:
1) Happy Go Lucky Unicorns quilt purchased in 2016 (FAL #83) is completed. I'll be making a pillow case, soak for bleeding and wash before sending it as a gift to my friend. I'm so thrilled at how it turned out:

The Happy Go Lucky quilt pattern is a 3-yard pattern by Donna at Fabric Cafe. I did expand the borders based on how much fabric I had.
Free Motion Quilting inspired by Unit 1 in the String and Story Free Motion Quilting Academy.
Bias Binding made via the tube method on the Quilter's Strip Ticket - Bias Tube Construction and Yardage Table purchased at my original local quilt shop in 2016.
Used Jennifer Strauser's Machine Binding method complete it quickly.
Used Tear-away stabilizer to sew the label, but I wouldn't do that on another quilt like this one as the the backing shows through the light colored label. It would have been better to use a soft fabric interfacing to make it more solid.

2) Honey Bee Quilters Guild held the annual Elfin Magic workshop remaining projects not yet done:
2.a) COVID Card Vinyl Pouch - On Hold. Need to do top stitching but focus is currently on FMQ:

2.b) Phone clutch - On Hold. The binding piece in my kit was not long enough to complete, but one of the workshop hostesses will bring more to the December 7th meeting:

3) String and Story Free Motion Quilting Academy
Different basting sprays to test:
  1. S&S HAK Flour paste basting spray with cheap Vodka
  2. S&S HAK Flour paste basting spray with isopropyl alcohol
  3. Washable Glue diluted with water
  4. Washable Glue diluted with cheap Vodka
  5. Washable Glue diluted with isopropyl alcohol

It's time to start pushing forward with new motifs.

Both the String and Story homemade basting sprays diluted with either Isopropyl Alcohol or cheap Vodka stayed together nicely!

4) Assembling Geo Grid Quilt from Guild Exchange Blocks (FAL #133) is back to the Leader/Ender project since I had sewn all the Easy Breezy kits made from Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 L/E pattern. Blocks have been organized on the design wall:

While the seams don't nest everywhere, I've decided to press the block seams left and right in alternating rows. The bottom 2 rows are sewn together. The middle three rows are in progress and will be sewn together for a section.

5) JAX MQG Donation block will be my next focus project - Black & White and focus color fabrics selected for the Easy Breezy 6" block. The blue fabric pieces have been cut. The Black, White & Gray fabrics have been selected.

6) JAX MQG Exchange Gift - Need to choose pattern and fabrics. Maybe I'll use some Tula Pink Homemade fabrics and make a pouch or Mug rug.
