2019 Sewing Year in Review plus December Furtle

December Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

-Janine at Rainbow Hare on 2/28/2019

December has been a very productive month here, 3 projects completed and 2 quilts done, including one planned in 2017 and started in 2018. The 2 dolls copied from Heather Ross' Trixie doll panel were completed along with custom sleeping bags all from the Trixie fabric line fabrics. They are super cute:
Dixie & Pixie

2 Mug Rugs (one doesn't have binding so I didn't count it as a quilt):

1 Dolly-sized donation quilt:

Trixie and Sunny continue to inspect my work and continue to urge me on

Sticky Prod Along 2019

Thanks also to Mini Archie for the pushing me to get things done for the last part of 2019. I'm proud to say I completed a lot of items:
  • Finish Jelly Roll Rug sewing together and pressing and blog posting
  • Finish Halloween QuiltSmart midi bag
  • 3 rounds of IKEA furniture designing, buying, and handyman put together in Sewing Room
  • Order & Assemble Cutting Table
  • Unpacked 20 Sewing Room Boxes putting everything away
  • Cricut practice cutting fabric on Carolina Moore's Sampler quilt
  • Trixie's twin sisters: Design and cut with stitching lines on Cricut (took 25% of the time to make 2 than it took me to precision cut and hand draw the sewing lines on Trixie)
  • Timeless Love Hugs hung on the wall above the bed after re-sewing the hanging sleeve in place with a gap for the hanger
  • Dixie and Pixie with their clothes and sleeping bags
  • JAX MQG MugRug for the Guild Meeting swap
There were a number of things that didn't get done, but I'm not going to worry about those things, they will still get done in their own good time. Trixie and Sunny still have access to their pointy sticks if I need a prod or two.

2019 Review

2019 wraps up so many new and different items for me. In addition to sewing there is also moving 950-miles across country to a new home with a sewing headquarters! (see Limitless TV show on Netflix for the reference), and a new puppy (lost my prior heart dog in July).

The new Sewing H.Q.! is wonderful with custom IKEA shelves and a new Arrow cutting table. Photos in the November Furtle Post.

Let's look at my 2019 Goals and how it worked out:

  1. Keep my health as the highest priority
    1. I did start cooking more at home and some better meals
    2. Bought a recumbent trike and have started to ride it for my knee
    3. Easier time going up and down the full set of stairs in the new house, even carrying the puppy
  2. New home with a sewing studio
    1. Accomplished! Love the sewing room with custom height cutting table!
  3. Progress on Quilt UFO's even while moving across the country mid-year
    1. One completed
    2. One cancelled
    3. None added
  4. Progress on non-quilt UFO's
    1. One completed
    2. None added
  5. Progress on planned quilts with fabric pulled AKA PIGS (Projects in Grocery Sacks) or NYS (Not Yet Started)
    1. One cancelled
    2. 13 added
  6. Progress on planned non-quilts sewing projects with fabric pulled
    1. Some added
  7. Increase Quilting skills both Free Motion & Rulers
    1. No progress - Hand sewing was the area of focus with the moving
  8. Continue to work on the boundaries in my life so I don't get overwhelmed
    1. Had more chances to work on this especially towards the end of 2019 with work
  9. Gain clarity on what I want to accomplish with my blog
    1. No clear answer yet

I'm very happy with 2019. This is the best place I've ever been. It's all been a wonderful adventure to get here!

Some statistics for 2019

  • Projects completed: 11
    • Quilts: 2
  • Project started but not completed: 4
    • Quilts: 3
  • Projects added: 32
