May-end Furtling 2019
As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

May has come to an end (*what? so soon*) and here's what happened....
On the blog front, I continued with Kate's Life in Pieces in the 15-minutes/day stitching which I started tracking my stats on April 2nd. My goal is to have more than 2 days out of every week (29%) where I stitch at least 15-minutes/day. This means that I post every week with my sewing days count and percent stats rolling forward. So far, I've been able to sew 61% (36 of 59 days) which is very thrilling.

Recently, I have decided to wait until all the QAYG blocks are done to arrange them in the layout.
The next kit, #3, will have to wait for a bit as I try to complete a whole machine sewn quilt from a kit in June.
I do have Kit #3 around to steal the white embroidery thread for Kits 1 & 2. While I hate putting this back in the UFO 'pile', I want to do some machine sewing while I can before I have to pack up and move.
Kits 4-9 are still in storage while the house is being inspected for sale.
On May 6th while Hubby was in NYC for a Flute lesson, I laid out the pre-cut 5" squares on the floor and ordered them in baggies of 13 squares per row in 16 rows. There were only a few adjustments to not have the same fabric consecutively placed.
Look at that adorable kit photo with the darling double-border! I want my quilt to look similar so I ordered extra fabric to create that look. Then used EQ8 to figure out the sides and amounts of fabric to purchase.
So, that means I need instructions on how much to cut and of what fabric, so, below are my hand-written notes on what I need to do. Thank goodness, I love to write instructions. *grin*
After reading a tutorial by The Cottage Mama called Charm Pack Baby Quilt Tutorial - Guess Whoooo Love You? I'm going to work the rows in 4 sets of 4. It would be best if I had a Leader/Enders separate project for between the rows & columns. That leads me to the next project...
I do so much enjoy Tula's fabric lines from the very early days of my quilting 'career'. In September 2016, I finished 2 small quilts for friends new children made from Tula Pink's Bumble fabric line.
Again needing my own instructions, I've gotten a start on determining what I need to cut to also include a border on the quilt to have it be the size that I want. More to come on this one!!!
The good news is that I don't have to worry about trying to finish this quilt before moving.
Maybe the white one?
I would also like to give mine some adornment. Maybe a necklace? ear bow? dress? How about a name that starts with W? Winnie, short for Winifred?
Then design a carrying bag for the 4 bunnies out of Me & My Sister's Frolic fabric line:
She's also got a YouTube of sewing the dragon to go along with her pattern.
I even bought a few different colors of eyes:
Thinking about making 2 solid Dragons.
Then make a 'baby' from them with both fabrics?
My dear in-person friend, Jen Strauser, has a very compelling post aptly named Trixie and Thomas about hand sewing this panel. Jen's mice have the most adorable faces! Given my recent successes with hand-piecing and the compelling nature of the #wooliamgang adventures on Instagram, I ordered a panel and some extra fabric from the Trixie fabric line to play around with. Okay, I confess, that probably adds it to my stash; oopsy, LOL! If you do order the panel note that the 'help' blog is located at the following link instead of the spelling error on the panel:
https://heatherross.squarespace.com/journal/2019/4/4/trixie-amp-thomas-tips-and-tutorial
If you follow that to her friend Annabel Wrigley Blog, you will see that the panel needs to have the sewing lines drawn. If you look up from Jen's blog the Windham Fabrics link, original panel image had cutting lines and the background to foreground color boundary was supposed to be the sewing line, but it looks like in the mass production things changed.
Unfortunately, in early July he will need to undergo a one day surgery. I will do my best to prepare a hand-sewing project to take with me, perhaps Thomas, Trixie, and their clothing. Sometimes it's hard for me to do something constructive while waiting, sometimes, I can only read a novel to distract myself when Mr. Bear is under the knife. Any kind suggestions or healing prayers would be most appreciated.
That's about all I've got for now. How was your May?

Sewing/Crafting:
Sewing Progress: Moda Matchboxes Quilt by Hand
Continued my main hand-sewing project, to take all 9 Moda Matchbox Quilt Kits and create a Quilt-As-You-Go (QAYG) wall hanging. This is my first hand pieced, hand quilted, and QAYG project ever. Watched several of Simple. Handmade. Everyday. Kristin Esser's YouTube Videos after following her and Patty Dudek of Elm Street Quilts' Hand Pieced QAL which started in January 2019. I LOVE Patty's rainbow colored sample.Picture from the day the Kits arrived with a ruler (mine were all boxed away) |

Moda Matchbox Quilt Kit #2 Finished!
I was well in the momentum swing after finishing Kit #1 by the end of April and with MA's stick prodding (thank you!) and the focus on a single project I successfully completed Kit #2 as another One Monthly Goal for the end of May with Elm Street Quilts.Moda Matchbox Quilt Kits 1 & 2 side by side as hand-sewn Quilt-As-You-Go Blocks |

New Quilt Project: Simply Sparkle Bliss
In April, I purchased an adorable kit. In May, I pulled out the Riley Blake Designs' Simply Sparkle quilt kit featuring Bliss by My Mind's Eye:On May 6th while Hubby was in NYC for a Flute lesson, I laid out the pre-cut 5" squares on the floor and ordered them in baggies of 13 squares per row in 16 rows. New Quilt Leaders/Enders Project: Sunny Days in Pinkerville
I WON! Blue Skies and Sunny Days quilt pattern from Sandra Jane Walker of Musings of a Menopausal Melon - mmm! quilts. And then all of a sudden, I found an opportunity to get Tula Pink's Pinkerville 2.5" strips rollTula Pink's Pinkerville fabric line |

Back to Fabric Stash: Morse Code Quilt Guild Workshop CANCELLED
So sad that we will NOT be having the Thomas Knauer workshop for the Morse Code quilt. If you can send loving/healing vibes to Thomas Knauer please do so! The fabrics have been allocated back into the stash. Since I am moving away from the area, even if he comes back in the future, I don't expect that I will get to participate. *BIG SIGH*The good news is that I don't have to worry about trying to finish this quilt before moving.
Stuffies and Such: Potential fuzzy friends
Since I have been following the #wooliamgang's adventures on Instagram, I've got a hankering for adding small friends to my life.

House Sale Progress:
Working our way through the house selling process. In the worst part for us dealing with the Inspections outcomes. Can't even speak about it right now, dealing with a lot of emotions about this. Still on target for an early-August closing.Health:
I feel better when I follow the food eating advise of Dr. Steven Gundry. Hubby is reading MY Birthday present, The Longevity Paradox book. Last night, I made dinner (Friend Cauliflower 'Rice') out of the recipes in the book and am so happy. I am very sensitive to the Lectins that Dr. Gundry describes in The Plant Paradox. I have not felt well with some of the eating out that we had been doing for dinner lately. I am so glad to have these healthier eating options. Hubby is feeling better also, his stamina for yard work is greater than last year. He is playing more music than last year also.Unfortunately, in early July he will need to undergo a one day surgery. I will do my best to prepare a hand-sewing project to take with me, perhaps Thomas, Trixie, and their clothing. What a busy month you've had! I'm sorry you're missing the workshop (and hope that Thomas is soon well again), but it looks like you've got lots to keep you busy! Maybe the day you were going to spend at the workshop could be spent on a sewing day at home? Your second Moda Matchbox block looks wonderful, I'm really enjoying watching them develop on Instagram! You won't be surprised to hear that Mini Archie is verrrrrry excited about you making a white bunny and then some chums for it and has asked me to tell you that a Bloem basket makes an excellent chum travel bag... *rolls eyes*
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the house sale and inspections and Mr Bear's surgery - fingers and paws are firmly crossed for good outcomes for all of them xxx Thanks for furtling!
Thank you so much. I was able to go to the guild's dedicated space today (the day of the workshop) in a park building (we are so lucky) and use the cutting room to cut out the pieces for the Sunny Days in Pinkerville quilt for leaders/enders. Thanks so much for the encouragement!!! Very much appreciate your comments. MA's antics make me giggle. I'll have to look more into the Bloem Basket. Please tell MA that I was thinking about making sleeping quarters in the travel bag for the bunnies. Also pockets for all their personal treasures so they wouldn't get hit by anything tumbling around during transit.
DeleteAppreciate all the good vibes and looking forward to furtling again with you next month!!!
You've got some gorgeous projects lined out for the next few weeks. Hope the inspection stuff lines out soon. We've been hit with unexpected stuff during inspections and it's never fun. Get in some good stitching time, hopefully that will help with the insanity of the home sale.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kate. I got to cut fabric yesterday which made me so happy!!!!
