April-end Furtling 2019
As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

April has come to an end and here's what happened....
On the blog front, I joined Kate of Life in Pieces in the 15-minutes/day stitching on April 2nd and tracking my stats. My goal is to have more than 2 days out of every week (29%) where I stitch at least 15-minutes/day. This means that I post every week with my sewing days count and percent stats rolling forward.

Recently, I have decided to wait until all the QAYG blocks are done to decide how to arrange them in the layout.
Finished my first Quilt-As-You-Go block ever! I'm so excited and looking forward to moving on to the next kit.
Finishing this by the end of May for both my Firtle & One Monthly Goal for May!
Kits 4-9 are still in storage while the house is being shown for sale.
After hanging out with the colors for a little while, I selected #2. Since we are using Morse Code, I created an Excel spreadsheet to convert phrases into Morse Code going down the page. Here's my current favorite given the workshop parameters:

Sewing/Crafting:
Sewing Progress: Moda Matchboxes Quilt by Hand
Big hand-sewing project is to take all 9 Moda Matchbox Quilt Kits and create a Quilt-As-You-Go (QAYG) wall hanging. This is my first hand pieced, hand quilted, and QAYG project ever. Watched several of Simple. Handmade. Everyday. Kristin Esser's YouTube Videos after following her and Patty Dudek of Elm Street Quilts' Hand Pieced QAL which started in January 2019. I LOVE Patty's rainbow colored sample.Once all the Kits arrived with a ruler (mine are all boxed away) |

Moda Matchbox Quilt Kit #1 Finished!
With MA's stick prodding (thank you!) and the focus on a single project I've restarted submitting One Monthly Goal and successfully finished this one in time.Provided binding adjusted to be block border |
Finished my first Quilt-As-You-Go block ever! I'm so excited and looking forward to moving on to the next kit.
Moda Matchbox Quilt Kit #2 Cut out & marked
Kit #2 laid out and ready to get started |
Milestone completed: Moda Matchbox Quilt Kits #2 & 3 out of storage
Since I wanted white floss for the #1 border quilting, I had to go and get #3 out of storage (and picked up #2 at the same time), see example photo from Fat Quarter Shop.Kits 4-9 are still in storage while the house is being shown for sale.
Milestone completed: Got white thread 28-wt and try quilting
For the quilting in the Star's background it would be better to have the thread be smaller than the provided floss. Found Aurifil 28-wt online and got it delivered in time with a variety of needles to use on #1 for both the Stitch in the Ditch and Star's background inside the borders.Fun Sewing Progress: Quilt Guild Workshop selected fabrics
Even with trying to move, I want take the June workshop provided by my Quilt Guild. It's with Thomas Knauer and a few from the guild have taken other classes with him. Jen Strauser worked with him to create MOMA with Thomas Modern Mini Quilt which was included in an issue of Curated Quilts. Took my time (sort of) and selected the solid fabrics line from Fat Quarter Shop with a focus backing:After hanging out with the colors for a little while, I selected #2. Since we are using Morse Code, I created an Excel spreadsheet to convert phrases into Morse Code going down the page. Here's my current favorite given the workshop parameters:

House Sale Progress:
Received an offer to sell the house! Not through the attorney review yet, so we are not out of the woods yet. Fingers crossed that this goes well. We have the staging down to a science when someone wants to walk through the house. 1-hour to stage add 30-minutes if the floors need vacuuming. That puts stuff in hubby's car and hubby takes the dogs in my car and sits across the street and watches the house. Then 1-hour to unstage the house after the tour is over. These activities always put my step counter over 7,000/day. Wish us luck or send good vibes if you have some to share.Fun Stuff:
I have been following the adventures of some of Mini Archie's chums on Instagram, check out #wooliamgang to see some fun, adventurous, and fashionable yarn mice! Since so many of them are 5-hours earlier than me, it's a great way to start the day checking out their adventures.Link-Ups:

I'm intrigued by your morse code quilt, look forward to seeing it in future furtles. Best of luck with the house, I know how stressful and all consuming it can be but hopefully it will all be resolved soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Alex. I can't wait for the workshop, it will be 2 Furtles before any more updates.
DeleteI love all your projects but the Morse Code one is especially tantalising! It's going to be awesome! I love the 15 min per day sewing, too. A bit of calm in a busy day - lovely
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue. I'm so looking forward to the class.
DeleteWhat a super idea to make those mini quilts into a hanging! Bravo for going the hand stitched QAYG route! It's a method I learned recently in a similar way--reading tutes around the intarwebs and having a go. Sending many good vibes that all goes well with the house sale--been there, done that, makes me all Grinchy!
