1/31/2022 - Easy Breezy Doggie Quilt
On July 1, 2020 Bonnie Hunter added a Leader Ender Challenge to her Quiltville Blog which is now in the Free Patterns section. I started cutting scraps and made several of the larger size blocks. In 2021 when I realized that the 23 year old quilt Kipper, one of my dogs, enjoys snuggling with me under during night TV watching was fraying. I designed a layout with just 9 Easy Breezy blocks. With the boost to my confidence from joining String and Story's Free Motion Quilting Academy with HollyAnne Knight, and making her homemade Spray Baste, the Easy Breezy Doggie quilt finally got sandwiched, quilted and bound with a custom label including an artist rendering of Kipper in Fabric.
1/13/2022 - Rock Candy
In 2020, I decided to join the Jaybird quilts weekly quilt along for the 6 Journey to Nebula project to learn to use Julie's rulers. Now, Rock Candy is done and Hubby wanted it for a side table in his hobby room:

12/29/2021 - Work From Home Turbulence
The Modern Quilt Guild's 2022 Artisan Cotton Fabric Challenge sponsored by Windham Fabrics had a limited number of free fabric bundles and I luckily reserved one. It was delivered to my local MQG for pick-up. The provided/required fabrics were a cheerful, jewel-toned palette of four.
Official photos of my Modern Quilt Guild QuiltCon 2022 submission for the Windham Fabrics Artisan Cotton fabric challenge. The piece finished at 14" by 14".
Artist's Statement: This original design pieced quilt represents the structure needed for Working From Home, overlaid by the Turbulence of the job and home interruptions. Ghosts of activities cancelled impact the best laid plans after working so hard to try and complete goals. Quilting techniques include Stitch in the Ditch, Free Motion and Ruler Work. The Terry Twist quilting ruler by Sally Terry was used to obtain the swooping stitches. This quilt contains a lot of personal firsts: patchwork original design, micro quilting, ruler work, echo quilting and facing. The Windham Artisan Cotton Challenge Fabrics gave the rich depth needed to express the emotions of this experience.
MQG reached out to inform that it was not accepted into QuiltCon 2022, so it's hanging in my office where I can see it from my desk and it makes me smile.
12/28/2021 - Seaside table runner - half length for Living Room
In 2020, I decided to join the Jaybird quilts weekly quilt along for the 6 Journey to Nebula project to learn to use her rulers. Now, Seaside is done and in the Living Room on the Coffee Table near it's matching Maywood Studios Burgundy & Blush Jelly Roll Rug:
12/28/2021 - 2021 Patterns By Jen Color Challenge for Lil'Trixie
Mouselet/Doll sized quilt from the 2" 2021 Color Challenge blocks. This is my first completed Color Challenge quilt. It is made with the 12 custom 2" blocks based on Patterns by Jen 2021 Monthly Color Challenge BOM. This year's quilt was inspired by Fruits and Vegetables and has the perfect backing. The Janome 9400 decorative quilt stitch number 23 was a perfect finishing touch around the blocks.

11/28/2021 - Happy Go Lucky Unicorns quilt and Pillow case
At the first quilt show I attended in 2016, Donna of Fabric Cafe presented her 3-yard quilts and I was excited to try. In her fabric roll bins, I found a cute roll with Unicorns that I've been wanting to make into her Happy Go Lucky pattern. The Quilt Top flimsy was completed with as much fabric as I could get into the sashing and borders, which varied from the original pattern to have as little waste as possible.

10/3/2020 - Bandanna & Jeans #1
Bandannas and Jeans quilt was my oldest UFO from 2015 when I got my first Janome and decided to make this quilt from Japanese Folded Patchwork book by Mary Clare Clark. The denim on the quilt bottom was reclaimed from old jeans, some from my Dad's attic when we cleaned out after he and my Step-Mom passed and some used from thrift shops. Dad's jeans have beige paint or some other construction material stains, perfect for a quilt to lay on the ground for dog events.
7/18/2020 - Sampler Quilt 1
Carolina Moore (CraftMoore) has a Cricut Maker Block of the Week, the Sequel with cutting files that can be one by color for all blocks. That's the one that I did first. The Riley Blake Designs fabric line by Keera Job is called In the Meadow. The plain White and the backing are from stash. After experimenting with soaking and washing this will hang in my office.
Lessons Learned:- Leave slightest bit of adhesive showing on the loading end of the mat to keep the fabric from rolling up and shifting (had to recut the 4 green blocks of the plus block background)
- For white fabric turn off the marking pen, it bleeds through, which is okay for the marking, but not the numbers.
- Remember the blue washable marking pens turn permanent with heat according to quilters apothecary
- use sewclean to get the washable marks out quickly. I followed it up with a cold water bath. 4-6 applications of sewclean {SewClean is no longer manufactured}

6/8/2020 - Bumble Mug Rug
Tula Pink Bumble mug rug from Free Motion Quilting test sample from the 2016 quilts, Her Bumbles and She Bees. Finished this Mug Rug for myself with the same binding used by the Flamingo quilt. It was as simple as squaring the sample regardless of the bumble being off center. It makes me smile
6/7/2020 - Florida Flamingo
Florida Flamingo with background, FPP pattern by Paper Panache. This Flamingo headed to the UK for the IG-based #WooliamMidSummerSwap2020 representing my first year in Florida also pink was my Dad's favorite color and my swapee reminded me of some things about my Dad. The pink fabrics are from my Aunt's box of quilting goodies that she sent me after 'the great closet clean-out'. So this was a work of love. The sky, water, and dark grass are hand dyed fabrics by Marjan Kluepfel from a class (quilt not yet done). This all worked out as I wanted and I was so pleased to ship it off to gift.
Lessons learned:- If you use colored pencils to know what color goes on which piece, be sure to put a piece of freezer paper on your ironing surface so the pencil marks don't transfer under the iron. Put the paper coated side down and heat to adhere temporarily to the ironing surface. You can pull it off later and replace to keep your surface clean.
- I prefer having the 1/4" around the pieces so that I know how big the fabric actually needs to be
- Basting to the outer edge (~1/8") especially floppy fabrics works well for me even though I will have to remove the basting to remove the paper.

3/29/2020 - Adding Hope
The Jacksonville Modern Quilt Guild (JAX MQG) hosts challenges, the March (extended to April) was "Low Volume". As I never heard the term before, had to look up examples and fell in love with Ashley of Film in the Fridge's Marcelle Plus Quilt, and designed my own throw. This is my first non-wall quilt since 1999. This is also my first pieced back with more low volume fabrics.
1/26/2020 - JAX MQG Name Tag
Designed after the 2017 Kimberbell Basics Table runner, I designed and made my first custom Name Tag.

12/28/2019 - Dimensional Pinwheels Dolly Donation Quilt
Enjoyed making the Dimensional Pinwheels in May 2018 so repeated the main pattern for a Quilt Guild Dolly Donation Quilt in simple fabrics from my Aunt's unused fabric stash.
12/25/2019 - 'Do What You Love' Mug Rug
Easily sewed on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day to create this Mug Run from a kit obtained at QuiltFest Jacksonville from Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe. This was sewing time for me during my last vacation day of the year.

7/14/2018 - Grandmother's Lovie Lap Quilt
Easily made Carolyn's Homesewn Lovie Lap Quilt with pockets for my 100-year old Grandmother. Backed with flannel. Pockets are flannel on both sides as well. See the finish post HERE.5/14/2018 - Autumn Dimensional Pinwheels Table Topper
My neighbor friends Joe & Angela asked me to sew a huge Thanksgiving tablecloth together for the 2017 holiday. Angela and I went to Joann's for her to purchase the fabric. I took it home along with the measurements and proceeded to create the tablecloth with a French Seam and my first rolled hem. It was a hit at Thanksgiving dinner. With the fabric scraps left over, I wanted to make a Dimensional Pinwheels quilt from Laura Ann Coia's SewVeryEasy YouTube video. Joe provided input on the preferred matching color using the colored dots along the selvage. The matching Kona Cotton and a variegated brown thread finished the quilt nicely.Awards:

5/13/2018 - Parasols
This Queen-sized Silk Charmeuse and Dream Orient batting quilt was inspired by the 2016 Treasure Garden catalog cover. The company has provided permission to enter this into Quilt Shows. To create the quilt as desired it required a unique construction method to align the octagons and create the wrap-around self-binding. The parasols have a second layer of batting over the silk squares before any of the quilting triple & satin stitches that can be seen on both the front and back of the quilt. This Queen-sized quilt was sewn entirely on a home sewing machine.Awards:
> 2018 Rebecca's Reel Quilters guild show 3rd place in Applique
> 2018 Finalist - Quilt accepted into A Day in the Life at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza in the Innovative Category
3/17/2018 - Freezer Simple Table Topper
Hubby asked for a simple table topper for the chest freezer that holds the dog food. Had the supplies in my stash and finish it in one day. A fun break from satin stitching Parasols every day. Used Janome's wavy stitch to create a quilted grid. A flange binding finished it quickly.Note: Needs the corners hand stitched closed and a label created and hand-stitched to the back, but it's not for any competitions or shows so that's extreme low priority.

11/5/2017 - Kimberbell Basics Tablerunner
Phyllis Garnat's Rebecca's Reel Quilters Guild Tablerunner workshop on November 4, 2017 used Pellon 702D Quilter's Secret lined iron-on interfacing to easily create a fun little quilt. I used a Charm Pack (5" squares) from the 2017 Maywood Studios Kimberbell Basics fabric line and arranged them in a rainbow-ish fashion to create the effect I wanted. Kona White was an easy add for borders. This quilt now sits on the side-table next to my TV watching chair and it makes me smile.Awards:

11/5/2017 - Thread Painted Sunflowers
My first Thread Painting workshop was hosted by Rebecca's Reel Quilters guild. Joyce Hughes came in on October 7, 2017 providing the pre-quilted background and appliqued unique set of sunflowers for each participant. I finished the last few Thread Painting steps at home and then trimmed the quilt and added a matching flange binding to finish it. I'm looking forward to seeing where thread painting takes me in the future.11/3/2017 - Tux & Kipper's dawn beach adventure
Rebecca's Reel Quilters Guild started a Batik Challenge on April 2, 2017 with a target delivery for the November 5th Harvest Luncheon. It took me until October to determine what I would make with the various sized fabrics I received from my group. Pictures of my dogs were resized to be the same scale to create the original design based on my vision with these fabrics. The red/yellow batik was my one add fabric. the water blue was my color and I had an extra yard of it (originally purchased for something else) so it also became the back and main binding color. The center applique is all raw edge stitched down during the quilting process. Both Free Motion Quilting and decorative machine stitches were used on my domestic sewing machine.Awards:
> 2018 Rebecca's Reel Quilters guild show 1st place in Miniature
7/10/2017 - Port in a Storm At Sea
David Sirota's No More Tears paper piecing method for Storm at Sea workshop on 3/3/2017 during The Quilt and Sewing Fest of New Jersey was fabulous. I made this 2 color version with a border and flange binding. The quilting was simple Stitch-In-The-Ditch. The fabrics go with my curtains. This was my first wall hanging made for myself.Awards:

> 2017 NJ Middlesex County Fair 2nd place in Wall Hanging Quilts
7/9/2017 - Wonky Stars
Unused star blocks from the Wedding quilt and other extra fabrics easily translated into another Maple Island Quilt's BQ3 pattern small size quilt for the Rebecca's Reel Quilters Dolly Quilt donation. I enjoyed putting this together and using up a little bit of my stash.Awards:
> 2017 NJ Middlesex County Fair 2nd place

9/7/2016 - She Bees
When purchasing my first quilting swing machine from Fabric Inspirations (closed LQS) an example of this Maple Island Quilt's BQ3 pattern featuring one of Tula Pink's Bumbles fabric hung on the wall. Tula's fabric was so soft that I wanted to make this quilt for a friend's new grand baby and the following quilt for a different friend's first daughter. I started on August 15, 2015, but didn't know how to finish the quilts after I got the tops together. It took me a while to come back and finish these. I cut Bumble outlines out of batting and double-layered them before Free Motion Quilting around the Bumbles. There were several thread ends to bury since I used 2 different top threads for quilting. It was so much fun to do these.9/7/2016 - Her Bumbles
See the She Bees description for this one. The layouts are different because the row blocks matched best with alternate setups.6/2/2016 - RRQ Nametag
In 2016 when I joined the Rebecca's Reel Quilters they provided a name tag 'blank' with the embroidered symbol for the guild. I used the Raw Edge Applique technique Sue Nickels taught on March 17, 2016 at the AQS Workshop Basic Stitched Raw Edge Machine Applique - Tulip and Heart in Lancaster, PA to add my name characters. Microsoft Word text effect curved my first name and allowed me to print the text backwards. I used scraps from the Wedding quilt for my name, to back, bind, and for the neck strap. I did buy the D-rings to attach the neck strap. I have gotten several compliments on the name tag specifically that it is easy to read.5/3/2016 - Time Pirate's Cannonball
Created for Rebecca's Reel Quilters (RRQ) 2016 Small Quilts Raffle. The center was from Carolyn Forster's Comfortable With Curves workshop at my first AQS QuiltWeek in Lancaster, PA on Thursday, March 17, 2016. Scraps from Timeless Love Hugs were used and then the ships and wavy blue & white fabrics were in the RRQ available fabric stash. It was fun to create something whimsical. My inspiration was both the TV show 'Once Upon A Time' with Captain Hook and 'Doctor Who'.Quilt Front |

12/26/2015 - Timeless Love Hugs
My first Janome dealer was called "Fabric Inspirations" and they were a great quilt shop. They taught a Learn To Quilt class from Debbie Welch's Beginning Quilting by Machine. The quilt was supposed to be for my husband but he likes it mounted on the wall showing off it's ribbons for my first official quilt that I made entirely by myself.Awards:
