January 2022 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

January Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

While the FinishALong organized group was cancelled in 2020 Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person started hosting a monthly progress link-up: Fettle Those Finishes!

December has been a fun time with my Husband and dogs. I had my final week of 2021 staycation and enjoyed the downtime with lots of sewing!

How did sewing go?

January Sewing objectives realized and progressed:

1. Continued String and Story's Free Motion Quilting Academy with HollyAnne Knight. Used a motif from Unit 2 to complete the border of a couch quilt for my dog and me.

I will continue to watch videos and doodle FMQ motifs in both my Rocketbook Orbit and on Doodle pads.

2. Rock candy Table Topper from 2020 Journey 2 Nebula by Jaybird Quilts completely finished, soaked based on Stop My Bleeding Quilt protocol, washed and dried. It has found a home in Hubby's music room.  I am so pleased that he wanted it.

3. Finished the Easy Breezy doggie quilt from Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender Challenge started July 1, 2020. It's the replacement for couch snuggling from the 6" blocks. It was totally completed!!! In time to successfully complete One Monthly Goal on January 31st. For details on the quilt, see the finishing post HERE. And the quilt is soaking to follow Vicki Welsh's Save My Bleeding Quilt protocol. The dark brown backing released dye into the water in the first hour, so for the second hour, the water was refreshed. Looking forward to washing it maybe tomorrow and having it on the sofa with my dog.

4. FMQA Sampler - Redesigned layout. I was going to use a Kona fat quarter bundle, but decided to use fabrics from Tula Pink's new Mythical Solids, Unicorn Poop and Dragon's Breath. Ordered additional Tula Pink fabrics to create something like this designed in EQ8, I did not map the colors but just used a best guess. I want this to be a quilt I am proud to display near my sewing machine to have as easy reference of the FMQA motifs.

5) Honey Bee Quilters Elfin Magic (part of FAL #3) - Folded Start 1
Almost finished at the workshop, but needs a little hand sewing for a machine binding blind gap:
