August 2021 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

August Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

While the FinishALong organized group was cancelled in 2020 Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person started hosting a monthly progress link-up: Fettle Those Finishes!

Okay, so I got a little out of sync and am writing this in October. Ooopsy.

July has been HOT! Both AC units needed help so it's been a bit of a strain. I did get to finish the month with a week of staycation. It was so different that I had trouble letting go of the high cortisol lifestyle to relax and rejuvenate with a lot of sewing. In the 9 days off work, I completed 37 hours of cutting, pressing and sewing.

The dogs and I also started Susan Garrett's Home School the Dog online program. I had to be creative to block one dog out without bothering Hubby while working with the other dog. But we did it!

Personally, I'm going through so many changes and it's a little tough. Hubby has been very supportive. I've started a new nutrition program and it's been very different. If you want to know about it check out Dr. Mindy Pelz on YouTube.

Okay dokay, let's see about the sewing!

July Sewing objectives realized and progressed:

1. Used the Cheerful Quilt made from Michael Miller fabrics for HollyAnne Knight's String and Story Quilting Plan Challenge class series. I created a low contrast EQ8 version of the quilt to be able to draw and mess around with a Quilting Plan:

2. Finished all 3 sizes of my August blocks for Patterns By Jen's 2021 Color Challenge:

Lil Trixie got her photo with her block:

3. Continued making blocks of Easy Breezy Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender Challenge started July 1, 2020. While others quilters are spending quality time getting lots of blocks done, I am strictly sewing the kits when there are no other pieces in my main project(s) to leave under the machine between stitching sessions. I am in no rush and can continue past June 30, 2021 if needed to have enough blocks for a quilt. The blocks are down off the design wall so I am not keeping any count temporarily.

I've learned from looking at Bonnie's finished quilt that I am heading in the right direction with a few tweaks. And I am also adjusting my scrap management to focus on creating the 1.5" versions, moving all other smaller cotton pieces to recycle into pet beds by one of my quilt guilds.

4. Made the additional 12 Blocks for the Geo Grid quilt after the guild exchange:

5. Got 15 more blocks done in GnomeAngel's 100days100blocks2021. I'm using Tula Pink fabrics in my stash including recent acquisitions from her Homemade fabric line. I think this project will wait thru next year's re-run of the Kinship Fusion quilt pattern:

6. Another July project into August to get done was the Quilt Guild Challenge: All About Me. We were to make a quilt highlighting our interests and then the guild members would guess who made which one during the meeting

The quilt is more of squares that represent my history starting at the bottom and moving upwards to current day.

  1. Look at all those gorgeous blocks! I think Lil Trixie is very pleased to have her block this month - she’s very patient for such a little one, isn’t she? Thanks for Furtling!

    1. Thank you so very much! This post is a little bit out of integrity, but items 1 through 5 are correct for August. Yes, she was so pleased to have her block! She's having a great time playing with Henry, the littles do keep each other occupied. PHEW!
