June 2021 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

 June Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

While the FinishALong organized group was cancelled in 2020 Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person started hosting a monthly progress link-up: Fettle Those Finishes!

June was lovely. So much has changed in just a quick month. My dog training style has changed. I think the boys and I have all been helped by reducing our Cortisol levels. I feel more stable and relaxed. It seems to be easier to think.

June Sewing objectives realized and progressed:

1. Preparation for my second in-person Quilt Guild class, Cheerful Quilt, made from Michael Miller fabrics. 8 blocks completed and progress towards 12 more blocks during the rest of the month. The sashings and cornerstones have also been prepared to make the flimsy.

2. Finished all 3 sizes of my June blocks for Patterns By Jen's 2021 Color Challenge:

That means we have the first half of 12 blocks. Lil Trixie got out her blocks to take a look:

3. Continued making blocks of Easy Breezy Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender Challenge started July 1, 2020. While others quilters are spending quality time getting lots of blocks done, I am strictly sewing the kits when there are no other pieces in my main project(s) to leave under the machine between stitching sessions. I am in no rush and can continue past June 30, 2021 if needed to have enough blocks for a quilt. The blocks are down off the design wall so I am not keeping any count temporarily.

I've learned from looking at Bonnie's finished quilt that I am heading in the right direction with a few tweaks. And I am also adjusting my scrap management to focus on creating the 1.5" versions, moving all other smaller cotton pieces to recycle into pet beds by one of my quilt guilds.

4. For our September Guild Birthday meeting one of the games is a block lottery. For every block made, each member gets a ticket in the drawing. The theme this year is I-Spy at the beach in a Hexagon shape. The side blue triangles are provided for everyone.  Here's a surfer from Heather Ross' Malibu fabric line:

5. Preparation before the July 1st start of GnomeAngel's 100days100blocks2021. I'm going to use the Tula Pink fabrics in my stash plus a 10" squares pack from her Homemade fabric line. I've put together a binder with the pattern and sheet protectors for organizing the sewn blocks, cut fabric pieces and block pattern instructions.

  2. It looks like Gracie is keeping you well in paw with all the organising and sewing. Was Lil Trixie pleased with how her blocks look? Mini Archie is wondering if Sunny is okay? Thanks for Furtling!

    1. You are right on target there. Lil'Trixie is thrilled and can't quite grasp why she can't have ALL her blocks now. "Why's a month sooooo long?" Sunny bounces for "MA"! She's been very diligent about going out as an Emotional Support Nori when needed. Sunny accompanied me to both COVID stabs and my last dental cleaning.
