March 2021 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

 March Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

While the FinishALong organized group was cancelled in 2020 Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person started hosting a monthly progress link-up: Fettle Those Finishes!

I was thinking I didn't do much in March, but the pictures seem to add up to quite a bit!

March Sewing objectives realized and progressed:

1. Completed the second Funky Friends Factory Dixie Dachshund out of similar fabrics for one of my sisters who saw the one for our Grandmother and wanted her own! This was my One Monthly Goal.

2. Created a cross body phone pouch for Hubby to sell to the local postal store owner after he admired Hubby's. New gang member, Gracie Mouselet, who is a quilting & sewing aficionado and is a terrific help to finish our first project together. She wears her snips on a lariat to keep them handy. The fabric here is from Me and My Sister Designs' Dot-Dot-Boo fabric line.

3. Finish-A-Long 2021 Q1 third completion was #109 on the list HERE. A Swoon Patterns' Summer Festival Bag which is washable and reversible. This fabric has been sitting waiting for this project since 2018.

4. Progress has been made on Thomas' arms from the Heather Ross Trixie & Thomas panel:

Gracie the sewing mouselet hard at work with the first arm.

Nellie the Personal Assistant helping me stay focused and hand sewing arms during the waiting period after first COVID-19 Moderna shot.

5. Based 42 Hexies from the Pink Door Fabrics EPP Starter Kit and aligned them to get a rainbow-ish effect. Ready to start practice sewing them together.

6. Finished all 3 sizes of my March blocks for Patterns By Jen's 2021 Color Challenge:

Lil'Trixie gets her photo with her 2" block made using Foundation Paper Piecing this month:

7. Continued making blocks of Easy Breezy Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender Challenge started July 1, 2020. While others quilters are spending quality time getting lots of blocks done, I am strictly sewing the kits when there are no other pieces in my main project(s) to leave under the machine between stitching sessions. I am in no rush and can continue past June 30, 2021 if needed to have enough blocks for a quilt. The blocks are down off the design wall so I am not keeping any count temporarily.

I've learned from looking at Bonnie's finished quilt that I am heading in the right direction with a few tweaks. And I am also adjusting my scrap management to focus on creating the 1.5" versions, moving all other smaller cotton pieces to recycle into pet beds by one of my quilt guilds.

8) Continued taping the seam allowance on the templates for the Smitten BOM quilt featuring fabrics from the Malibu line by Heather Ross, I am new to EPP and still need to practice before I really start sewing.
