February 2021 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

February Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

-Janine at Rainbow Hare on 2/28/2019

While the FinishALong organized group was cancelled in 2020 Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person started hosting a monthly progress link-up: Fettle Those Finishes!

February Sewing objectives realized and progressed:

1. Finished the 6" and 2" size (to go along with the 12" one) January blocks for Patterns By Jen's 2021 Color Challenge:

The 2" blocks will create a quilt for the younger newest members of the Gang! Here you can see Kate and her young protégé, lil Trixie. She's so adorable and very small. Luckily there were things in the wardrobe the ladies could make due with for now.

2. Completed all 3 blocks for February

3. Continued making blocks of Easy Breezy Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender Challenge started July 1, 2020. While others quilters are spending quality time getting lots of blocks done, I am strictly sewing the kits when there are no other pieces in my main project(s) to leave under the machine between stitching sessions. I am in no rush and can continue past June 30, 2021 if needed to have enough blocks for a quilt. The blocks are down off the design wall so I am not keeping any count temporarily.

I've learned from looking at Bonnie's finished quilt that I am heading in the right direction with a few tweaks. And I am also adjusting my scrap management to focus on creating the 1.5" versions, moving all other smaller cotton pieces to recycle into pet beds by one of my quilt guilds.

4) Received the first month BOM for the Smitten quilt featuring fabrics from the Malibu line by Heather Ross, I am new to EPP and still need to practice before I really start sewing.

Started to tape the seam allowance on the templates to be able to fussy cut.

Kate inspects my trying out different seam allowances for my practice pieces, and learning to glue baste.

5) Continued Janome 9450 Workbook chapters

6) Created 3 juvenile Mouselets Firefly Quilts from the Workbook Chapter 3 final exercise

7) Got 2 peg boards hung for my rosettes and ribbons in the Sewing H.Q!

8) Finished the Funky Friends Factory Plattie Platypus made out of Shannon Fabrics Minky Luxe Cuddle Glacier Ginger and Cuddle 3 Black. left over from making my grandmother a dachshund toy. Pauline of Funky Friends Factory offered a Plattie sew a long with camaraderie in her Facebook group. It was so much fun! This completed my February One Monthly Goal. And I can give my puppy back one of his stuffed animals (Mr. Moose a Kong dog toy) tonight when I sleep. LOL!

9) Started on the second Funky Friends Factory Dixie Dachshund out of similar fabrics for one of my sisters who saw the one for our Grandmother and wanted her own!

    1. Oh, thank you so much! I'm so happy with how he turned out. He's so soft and cuddly. I always wanted to see a platypus when I was a child.

    1. Leanne, thank you so much! I love my little friends. So helpful during a lock-down to be able to play. Thanks for the hints on the tutorials. Wishing you a crafty March or a crafting March, whichever you prefer.

  3. Look at Kate inspecting your work - I love the way it looks as though she’s holding her paws behind her back as she surveys your attempts; very cute! I can’t believe how much you’ve done this month - looks like I wasn’t the only one to find extra time in a short month! The platypus is gorgeous, hooray for finishes! *waves pompoms* Thanks for Furtling!

    1. Thanks so much! Kate's a real task master. She's keeping us all in line here. I keep plodding along with at least 15-minues/day and somehow it adds up!!! Woo hoo. Plattie is keeping me company at night, watching out for pirates and being a very good snuggle buddy. Happy March-crafting!!!
