September Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

Starting September post early in the month to try and capture everything as they get done. With starting the month on stay-cation, it was a great time to start this post.

Sewing objectives realized:
1. Finished  both September blocks for Patterns By Jen's 2020 Color Challenge

2. Mended the rip in the seat of my dog walking jeans. Those jeans have small front pockets perfect for filling with treats to keep the puppy (turning 1 year old this month) focused on me instead of bikes, runners or dogs at a distance. We have not yet mastered passing dogs without barking like mad and causing bruises.

3. Over the shoulder phone pouch for dog walks, found this great Robert Kaufman Science Fair fabric and continuing to use up the dog paw prints fabric purchased for an ottoman cover that never happened. Luckily, this was on the Ridiculously Long Q3 Finish-A-Long list as number 121 and is now crossed off!

4. Six fabric face filters 2 for me, 2 for a lovely co-worker and 2 for the trainer both Hubby and I go to twice a week at the gym. She has sensitive skin and has difficulty with her other masks so we are trying this style and cotton towards the face. The trainer hasn't been able to find a mask method that will stay in place so I'm going to offer two of these for him to try.

5. Continued making blocks had 6 at the end of last month of Easy Breezy Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville 2020 Leader/Ender Challenge started July 1, 2020. While others quilters are spending quality time getting lots of blocks done, I am strictly sewing the kits when there are no other pieces in my main project(s) to leave under the machine between stitching sessions. I am in no rush and can continue past June 30, 2021 if needed to have enough blocks for a quilt. Now, there are 8 blocks on the design wall

6. Red-Yellow-Blue Bandannas and Jeans quilt (FAL #29) progress has been made, but not yet finished.
This was the oldest UFO on my Finish-A-Long list from 2015. Wanting to do this pattern from the book Japanese Folded Patchwork by Mary Clare Clark caused me to buy my first Janome and get started by buying bandannas and sewing them together. Then I took a Learn To Quilt class and never went back to finish this non-traditional quilt.

The gang was very diligent in snoopervising duties and helping to find any areas that needed 'fixing', here's the first one found by SirT and indicated with a safety pin:

There are only 4 Bandannas left to finish, that means it's 84% Bandannas done.

What did you get done in September?

Project Plans to continue in October:
  1. Finish Bandannas and Jeans quilt 1 (FAL #29)
  2. 2 secret sewing projects for Gift Exchange
  3. PBJ 2020 Color Challenge 2 October blocks
  4. JAX MQG 2020 BOM as soon as available
  5. Honey Bees Holiday Block Lottery (for each block submitted, you receive an entry to win ALL blocks) - background fabric to be provided
  6. Maybe: more friends/family fabric face filters dual design?
  7. Make 3 Cafe Press 3-yard quilts for friends during the COVID-19 home-bound (FAL #56, 121, & 122)
  8. QuiltSmart Midi Bag - Sandscapes (FAL #93)
  9. Doggie Bandanna and Jeans quilt (FAL #29)
  10. Finish UFO: Simply Sparkle Bliss (FAL #9)
  11. Continue patching jeans including decorative stitching planned for the one where the puppy tore above the knee

  1. I love your gang of snoopervisors. I expect they come in helpful! You've had a great month. Your phone pouch for dog walks is a good idea and your masks are very stylish. I hope the trainer finds they stay on :)

    1. Thanks so much, Janine! The trainer's daughter LOVED the masks for school so she stole both. This lariat style is terrific for women's faces (smaller than men's). I love the dog walking pouch. And my gang are super terrific! They do help me get motivated and they are terrific at waving pompoms when a project is finished. They are excellent at posing with projects for the completion photos. Have a terrific October!
