August, September and October 2025 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

August, September and October Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

To socialize with my online crafty friends I'm linking up with Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person for the monthly progress link-up from Fettle Those Finishes!

Continuing weekly stats here for possibly linking up once a month with Kate at Life In Pieces. My 2021-2024 goal was to stitch at least 15-minutes 50% of the days in the year. Now, the goal is any number of minutes in a day for 50% of the year since the puppy is still under 2-years old he's a handful and I want as much time with him to enjoy our time together.

August flew by so quickly. The puppy is full sized and so energetic. We have a great time playing Frisbee in the yard multiple times per day. We're working on teaching him to go upstairs on his own. It's a slow process to increase confidence. Big brother is sick and I'm having to carry each of a 38-lbs dog and a 33-lbs dog upstairs 3x/day when I go to my office to work.

September and October were focused around getting both dogs well. Osky cut Wiki (the puppy) on the side and we had to manage the puppy's activities while he healed. Osky had a terrible 2-months with Tick Borne Disease progressed into Rheumatoid Arthritis. We've been working with Dr. Deva Khalsa a Naturopathic Veterinarian to get Osky feeling so much better. By the end of October he was playing with Wiki and running around enthusiastically. It's been a blessing to have found found things that are working for him.

Sewing continues to be my solace. Focus continues slowly on my projects planned in 2025 see my Furtle planning post HERE.

Projects Half Done Progress update:

There were 52 projects already started before January 1, 2025 (up from 46 in 2024). The below screenshot of my projects from the spreadsheet provided (and a little expanded) by QuiltingGail is my 'official' list with reference numbers used throughout the year.

As of August 31st, 7 projects have been completed (Blue Highlight), 2 UFO's and 5 new projects. 2 projects completed this month (Green Highlight on completion Date), 0 UFO's and 2 new projects. 4 projects progressed in August (Pink Highlight), 3 from UFO's and 1 new project.

As of October 31st, 9 projects have been completed (Blue Highlight), 2 UFO's and 7 new projects. 2 projects completed in September (Green Highlight on completion Date), 0 UFO's and 2 new projects. 7 projects progressed in September and October (Pink Highlight), 3 from UFO's and 4 new projects.

How did sewing go?

August, September and October Projects Completed:

1) QuiltFest Jacksonville donation heart pillow to be stuffed by volunteers, 2025 Project 18 completed in 0-hours and 40-minutes.

2) Mending the 2nd Red Bandanna on the couch cover Bandanna and Jeans quilt, 20205 Project 19 completed in 0-hours and 44-minutes.

August, September and October Projects Progressed:

1Moon Garden Smitten2 (2025 UFO 7): Block 6C progress, all 6 Macha green diamonds added to expand the hexagon shape. Pink Door Fabrics’ Moon Garden Smitten 2 is 2025 UFO 7, Month 6 in progress for more than 15-hours and 57-minutes out of 229-hours and 21-minutes on the entire quilt top.

2) Tula Pink's Alchemy Row 1 assembly continued during MQG meeting. Alchemy, a 2022 BOM, (2025 UFO 6) has Row 1 has progressed in 72-hours and 9-minutes out of 120-hours and 43-minutes on the entire quilt top so far. Example of the colors in this row:

3)
Embroidery 101 Alphabet Sampler Page progress, 2025 Project 2.

4) Flimsy assembled and seams pressed. Citrus Sampler (JAX MQG BOM 2020 + MQG 2025 Sew Along) is 2025 UFO 33 in progress for over 71-hours and 8-minutes.

5) Easy Breezy twin size, Quiltville's 2020 Leader/Ender pattern (2025 UFO 4) - now have 99 blocks of the 180 needed for UFO, 103 blocks will be done when the kits at the sewing machine are completed. A tracking spreadsheet has been created for all the elements needed to assemble the top and figured it's 56% complete.

6) Jacksonville Modern Quilt Guild had a meeting with a hand stitch quilting presentation. Each participant received a little kit to make a quilted panel to possibly turn into a zipper pouch. I pulled out some additional golden thread to create this panel. I’m expecting to make it into a Perfect Pouch by Lazy Girl Designs once I pick out the zipper and front panel fabrics and get a little more time between working on other projects. Big Stitch Sample Pouch is 2025 Project 17 in progress for 3-hours and 1-minute.

7) Progress on the 3rd Iteration (first fabric and Soft & Stable) of a custom Flute Case Cover. So far, Mr. Hubby Bear has said that “it’s better than I expected”; I’m so pleased. We’ve decided some tweaks for the next version. 2025 Project 20 is custom Bam Flute Case Cover in progress for 7-hours and 15-minutes.

8) Organizing yardage: Folded fabric with clips are now all on the top shelf. I'm happier after removing fabric I won’t be using. What a relief to have moved the non-quilting cotton down to the bottom shelf. The rest of the quilting cotton needs to be folded, labeled, photographed, wrapped around and secured to comic book boards with clear alligator clips before placing in rainbow-ish order on the shelf. I am expecting to take the low volume to the lower shelf as the rest of the fabric gets processed..

August, September and October Stats:

  • 2 Completed
  • 8 Progressed
  • 50 UFO's remaining
  • 8 2025 started projects remaining
What did you get done in August, September or October?
