April 2026 Furtle - Fettle Those Finishes Update

April Review / Furtle

Archie The Wonder Dog

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

To socialize with my online crafty friends I'm linking up with Mini-Archie, one of my favorite online personalities, and his person for the monthly progress link-up from Fettle Those Finishes!

Continuing weekly stats here for possibly linking up once a month with Kate at Life In Pieces. My 2021-2024 goal was to stitch at least 15-minutes 50% of the days in the year. 2025 and forward, the goal is any number of minutes in a day for 50% of the year since the puppy is still under 2-years old he's a handful and I want as much time to enjoy him.
  • Week 14: 7 of 7 = 100 %
    • 112 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • Week 157 of 7 = 100 %
    • 39 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • Week 166 of 7 = 86 %
    • 43 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • Week 177 of 7 = 100 %
    • 45 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • Week 184 of 4 = 100 %
    • 54 minutes/day average across 7-days
  • April 31 of 30 = 100 %
  • 2026: 88 of 120 = 98 %
April has flown by so quickly. The dogs and sewing and time with my husband are all balms to my soul.

Focus continues slowly on my projects planned in 2026 see my Furtle planning post HERE.

Projects Half Done Progress update:

There were 53 projects already started before January 1, 2026 (up from 52 in 2025). The below screenshot of my projects from the spreadsheet provided (and a little expanded) by QuiltingGail is my 'official' list with reference numbers used throughout the year.

As of April 30th, 7 projects have been completed (Blue Highlight), 2 UFO's and 5 new projects. 1 project completed in April (Green Highlight on completion Date), 0 UFO's and 1 new project. 6 projects progressed in April (Pink Highlight), 3 from UFO's and 3 new projects.

How did sewing go?

April Project Completed:

1) Mailbox cover version 4 was started and completed in one day!!! Wiki did help me again (similar to version 3 last year) by walking nicely over the spread out tarp and pattern on the floor. He’s so much better behaved than when he was only 9-months old (when v3 was made) that he lay down on the folded up extra tarp while I cut out the pieces. This version has an extra piece of tarp duct taped where the sprinkler head passes over the cover. Version 3 had the brown-side facing out, but the water pressure peeled that finish off. That means the silver coating (v2) did better. Also, by having the silver out, the duct tape is almost invisible. The cover is put on the mailbox on the nights when the sprinkler system runs as the well water contains contaminants. We are discussing moving the sprinkler head and cutting out the part of the base to landscape with stones or mulch. We will see how long this one works with the extra patch. Mailbox cover version 4 is 2026 Project 9 completed in 2-hours and 56-minutes.

April Projects Progressed:

1Moon Garden Smitten2 (2026 UFO 7): Block 6A was finally completed. And patching of the previous block with a too short seam allowance was completed so 6A and 6C can be attached. Block 6A was also attached. Pink Door Fabrics’ Moon Garden Smitten 2 is 2026 UFO 7, Month 6 in progress for more than 40-hours and 16-minutes out of 253-hours and 40-minutes on the entire quilt top.

2) Tula Pink's Alchemy Row 1 assembly continued with the second of five 1C medallions assembled. Then the third of six 1B connecting segments was attached to its medallion. Tula Pink’s Alchemy EPP quilt kit (2026 UFO 6). Row 1 has progressed in 76-hours and 21-minutes out of 124-hours and 55-minutes on the entire quilt top so far.

3) I've made great progress on a pattern I've wanted to make since a prior Quilt Guild held a class in June of 2017. My April OMG was to complete the flimsy for the Miniature quilt to submit to the QuiltFestJax show in September. The Miniature Quilt category needs at least 12 entries to keep it in the show. Last year there were less than 12 quilts; if that happens again this year then the category will be cancelled the following year. I've got one Miniature ready and this will be a second one! This quilt is a Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 pattern, Tumbling Triangles. While the originally selected pink fabrics were pretty, I realized there wasn't enough contrast between the blue background and the flower matched pink a 2-color pattern. Instead a Golden Yellow, complimentary color to the blue, fabric in the stash is a better selection contrasting with the focus print from my childhood. The April progress was more than expected with a flimsy, quilt sandwich, quilt plan, marking and some straight-line quilting in the yellow fabric.

4) I love the idea of including in the same quilt show both a miniature and a large size of the same pattern. I am hoping it makes the judge giggle a little. And since I've wanted to make this pattern since 2017, I'm going to also make the same pattern with similar fabrics in the 53" size. EQ8 simulation image below. All the blue fabric pieces are cut. 53" Tumbling Triangles is 2026 Project 7 in progress for 3-hours and 10-minutes.

5) While buying the golden yellow fabric for the 53" Tumbling Triangles, I ran across a lovely Lavender from the same line that was on sale! And AQS was starting a sew a long with the same V-block tool as used by Tumbling Triangles. AQS Honey V Revival Sew A Long is 2026 Project 8 in progress for 2-hours and 6-minutes. I'm experimenting with Complementary Color sets pulling fabrics from my stash:

6) About 57% of the pieces/parts have been organized including 107 blocks of 180 assembled. Bonnie Hunter Quiltville 2020 Leader / Ender free pattern, Easy Breezy twin sized quilt is 2026 UFO 4, progressed in more than 25-hours and 2-minutes.

April Stats:

  • 1 Completed
  • 6 Progressed
