March-end Furtling & Check-in

As defined by Mini Archie, ‘Furtling’ means ‘having a rummage, a delve, a look at the contents of something’. So I have furtled around to see what I have been doing this month and now I’m going to furtle around the blogs of anyone else who links up over at Archie the Wonder Dog!

March has come to an end and here's what happened....

Sewing/Crafting:

Milestone completed: Unstitched ottoman top quilting that was wrinkled

Finished unstitching everything in 5 days in 3 sessions mostly watching Maggie Q's Nikita on Netflix with Hubby (his choice). Seems I usually only 'sew' every other day. I'm so happy to have this milestone off my list of things to do. Good to have some down-time from machine projects to complete this since it languished for so long once it was done poorly.

This project won't get any further until the machine is back out and I can take the time to press the layers and spray baste them to make them flat.

Sewing Progress: Moda Matchboxes Quilt by Hand

Big hand-sewing project is to take all 9 Moda Matchbox Quilt Kits and create a Quilt-As-You-Go wall hanging. I've never hand pieced or hand quilted before so this is a learning experience. Watched several of Simple. Handmade. Everyday. Kristin Esser's YouTube Videos after following her and Patty Dudek of Elm Street QuiltsHand Pieced QAL which started in January 2019. I LOVE Patty's rainbow colored sample.
Once all the Kits arrived with a ruler (mine are all boxed away)

Below is the inspiration image for how this quilt 'may' look with all the kits as a single wall-hanging. Source: Days Filled With Joy - see Micro Mini image

Moda Matchbox Quilt Kit #1

Kit #1 pieces cut

Kit #1 Initial Marks

Kit #1 All Stitching Lines Marked

First 2 Half-Square Triangles (HST) hand sewn
Finished my first two hand-sewn pieces ever! I'm so proud of these first two HST's.

Non-sewing/Non-crafting:

House Sale Progress:

The house photographs were taken and uploaded to the Real Estate professional listing service. The house has been shown several times, but hasn't gone to contract yet. Not including photos here for my own security.

Fun Stuff:

Birthday fun! Hubby snuck out of the house while I was working from home and got me a bouquet of flowers & a balloon. It made me smile & feel giddy all day!!!
First time hubby brought a balloon with flowers

Such pretty lavender flowers!!!

  1. I love that you 'unstitch' things rather than unpick or rip them - it seems so much more gentle and kind the way you phrase it. I like the look of your first matchbox quilt a lot, it's a great idea to make a hanging from them all.

    1. Thanks so much, Alex. I am very much enjoying your blog. It was nice to take it slow and unstitch. You are right it is much kinder. In a fabric store where I worked, we ripped across the bolt to remove the customer's fabric so that's what comes to mind. Also, as a child I would tend to cut the fabric (oopsy) instead of just the thread when seam ripping. It needed a new name now that I have *some* patience. Thanks for perusing my blog!

  2. Like above, I much prefer the term unstitching, though I think I prefer not doing it at all even more ;-) The collection of Matchbox quilt kits sounds lovely, I like your thinking on combining them. And hand stitching and hand quilting is the way I first learned to make quilts...

    1. You are right, I prefer *not* to do unstitching either. Ah well. Thanks so much. I'm working my way through hand piecing ok, I'm a little intimidated by the though of hand quilting. So many questions, to hoop a small piece or not to hoop.

    1. I do appreciate MA's pointy stick for getting back to loving my blog. Furtling has also helped me to figure out that I can hand-stitch and commit to 15-minutes/day to keep my projects moving along instead of waiting for large blocks of time to make progress. Thanks for the link-up.
